Endless Layers of Colorful Candy Melt Away in a Satisfying Timelapse Video

The creators of the Let’s Melt This YouTube channel are anonymous connoisseurs of melting, having put a torch to everything from flat screen TVs to hamburgers. They put a classic candy to the test, using a 1900°F blow torch to melt a famously long-lasting giant jawbreaker candy ball. The task took 3 minutes and 46 seconds, and the video itself is sped up to about a minute and a half to show the satisfying removal of colorful layers. The graffiti-splattered white coating gives way to layers of vibrant orange, yellow, blue, green, and red as the candy steadily shrinks. Let’s Melt This has been less active of late, but you can explore their archive of melts on their YouTube channel. (via The Awesomer )   Colossal https://ift.tt/2Nx9BwJ February 27, 2019 at 08:23PM

Fantasies and Fears Surround the Beds of Illustrated Characters by Virginia Mori

We love the illustrations of Italian artist Virginia Mori ( previously ) who adds a subtle hint of dark humor to her quirky illustrations of young women and men. Recently the artist has been drawing scenes that revolve around the unconscious thoughts that spring to life while in bed. Each illustration presents an improbable or unique vision of a bedroom—from a bed composed of live grass, to another balanced on the tips of four trees. The illustrations seem to peek into her subjects’ dreams, projecting their hidden hopes or fears onto their surroundings as they slumber. You can see more of her work on her website , and keep updated with future exhibitions on Instagram  and  Facebook . Colossal https://ift.tt/2U74zt3 February 27, 2019 at 05:55PM

Custom-Built Coffee Tables Constructed from Original Components of the Golden Gate Bridge

All photographs © Danielle Hankinson Each rope that suspended San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge from 1935 to the 1970s was made of 229 individual strands arranged in a unique “ lay ” created at John A. Roeblin’s Sons Company in Trenton, New Jersey. Though these suspender ropes were retired about fifty years ago, the history and strength imbued in them lives on. Strands of History , a Tahoe City, California-based company founded in 2016, focuses on building functional items using the bridge’s original ropes, including a spectacular wood and steel coffee table. Mary Zimmerman of the Strands of History team explains to Colossal that the company was able to verify the rope’s authenticity by reviewing the original schematics from the Roebling’s company. Every suspension bridge has ropes with a unique lay, which create a sort of finger print for the bridge’s materials. Once a sufficient supply was in the hands of Strands of History, the company got to work determining a way to

Wood Sculptures Looking like Nature

The Franco-Argentine artist Pablo Reinoso is a specialist in the metamorphosis of wood. In his studio in Malakoff, France, he creates works of aerial flexibility, requiring sophisticated technical skills. This is the case, for example, of his series of installations that we will define as design, humorously called “Spaghetti Benches”. Located in public places and museums, they symbolize both the return of the material to the wild state, and at the same time the emancipation of the environment, bored and numb, trying to stretch and take other stands. But the eye will also see the poetic extension of the object, as in conversation with its environment.   Fubiz Media https://ift.tt/2Th4MwW February 27, 2019 at 04:41PM

Swedish Dads by Johan Bävman

Intimate, touching and yet universal, the «Swedish Dads» series by photographer Johan Bävman brings us to the heart of father’s life. This project was born from the observation that there is still very few male models to follow in terms of paternity. Besides, while parental leave in Sweden is one of the most generous in the world, the photographer finds that fathers use it little. «Only fourteen percent of parents choose to share the days equally» , he says. To change the paradigms and highlight some role models, he photographed several men who chose to stay at home with their children for more than six months. He also hopes to make people of his country aware of this government system’s benefits. To learn more about and discover his works, visit his website . An easy-to-carry every-day-carry!

The KLIP is one of those EDC products that doesn’t try to take on too much. It does one thing and does it right. Made with a robust titanium body, the KLIP is a convenient little blade housed inside a compact pocket clip, allowing you to fasten it to your pocket or your belt. Its tiny size and portable nature make it not just an EDC but an EEDC (an easy-to-carry everyday carry). The size of a single key, the KLIP works as a keychain too, allowing you to carry/fasten your keys to your pocket while you travel. The KLIP measures a mere 60mm when closed, and not more than 85mm when opened. It comes with a question-mark design that serves as a suspension hook/clip, but also allows the blade to sit in a recess in the back. The KLIP’s blade measures just over 27mm, comes made from 440C stainless steel, and sports a pointed tanto-style cutting edge and tip that’s great for slicing as well as piercing. The blade’s housed in an incredibly resilient Grade 5 Titanium body that promises to last n
