I think I can speak for the entire Design Milk team when I say we’re all fans of Yield Design Co (see here ; I still remember discovering them when they came out with their first product launch, the Yield Picnic Tote Bag , almost five years ago). When they told us they opened a retail shop in St. Augustine, Florida, we knew we had to (virtually) check it out. Rachel Gant and Andrew Deming of Yield Design Co named their brand’s first retail store Obscura and it’s filled with a curated collection of objects from furniture and drinking vessels to bags and jewelry for the shop. Their own line is known for being modern, fun and accessible which is why we love featuring it on @designmilkeveryday – they’re everyday objects that have been beautifully reimagined. The store also has exclusive items from designers that aren’t available anywhere else, and will have a visiting artist on rotation as part of their programming. This surprising chair is the work of Austrian designer Philipp Arduatz . Made from hand-carved wood, this chair joins together two main concepts of the history of design. On one hand, minimalism with its refined and functional lines; on the other hand, organic design with its spherical shapes inspired by nature. Instead of opposing them, the designer chose to reunite these two historical movements in on single object. Alexandr is a remodeled flat located in Moscow, Russia. This remodeling project, by Geometrium , is for a young family, including their 2-year-old son and Russian blue cat. The clients wanted their home to be a reflection of their lives and interests: the wife works at home and needed space to complete her work, as well as her painting on the side, while the husband wanted space for his football and cycling hobbies. Lastly, they wanted a soothing atmosphere to enjoy wine at home in the evenings. This was no minor remodeling project. This 109 square meter (1,173 square feet) flat was given an entirely new floor plan, with the addition of a bathroom, increased closet and storage space, and a wine chiller in the walk-in cabinet. The kitchen was connected to the living room, and the bathroom borrowed some space from the corridor.
