ECHO BOOMERS' Alex Pettyfer Talks with AICN

ECHO BOOMERS' Alex Pettyfer Talks with AICN Read the full article on AICN Hey readers.  Barbarella here after speaking with Alex Pettyfer, who stars alongside Patrick Schwarzenegger and Michael Shannon in ECHO BOOMERS.  In the film, recent college graduate Lance (Patrick Schwarzenegger) becomes immersed in an underground criminal operation with Ellis (Alex Pettyfer) and others.   Once the call connected, I spoke with Alex about COVID in Germany, which is where he lives. After a brief discussion on that, we shifted the focus to something that may be more interesting to AICN readers.  ECHO BOOMERS is Seth Savoy's directorial debut. What could you tell me about the experience of working with him on this? “This is a dream project for Seth and for myself. I had directed a movie called BACK ROADS, which was my directorial debut, or first feature film, in 2017.  It came out in 2018. To be on set as just an actor watching Seth was so inspir...

Freddy reviews the sequel to Timberwolf by Tom Julian, titled SYMMETRY

Freddy reviews the sequel to Timberwolf by Tom Julian, titled SYMMETRY Read the full article on AICN Freddy-Reviewing the sequel to TIMBERWOLF, titled SYMMETRY by Tom Julian. You can find my review of TIMBERWOLF here. As Tom mentions in his dedications, this is a sequel and you’ll be lost without the original. It sets everything up and spends the needed time to set everything up in Symmetry. She hung her head in silence for a few moments. Conversations between neighbors were now strained with the overhang of politics. It came down to infinitely complex issues boiled down to for or against, black or white. SYMMETRY starts right where TIMBERWOLF left off. Kizik has detached his psychic spider tentacles from Timberwolf Velez’s mind. They’re free of one another and both are thankful for the loss of entanglement. The spider creature heading for his kind, the Arnock. Timberwolf, without any kind to trust, starts thinking a bit on matters of the heart. Salla Birdwing ends up separated ...

FRIGHT FIGHT FRIDAY RANDOM BRACKET ROUND #4 - THE SCORPIO DEMON (Split Second) VS HORACE PINKMAN

FRIGHT FIGHT FRIDAY RANDOM BRACKET ROUND #4 - THE SCORPIO DEMON (Split Second) VS HORACE PINKMAN (Shocker) Read the full article on AICN Hey there, fellow horror geeks and monsterphiles! Prometheus here with our next installment of FRIGHT FIGHT FRIDAY! Today we have one of my favorite monsters vs one of my favorite meta-humans! That’s right! The eight-foot-tall Scorpio Demon from Split Second, versus electrified homicidal maniac, Horace Pinker from Shocker! Let’s talk about our competitors! THE SCORPIO DEMON (Split Second) The Scorpio Demon is one of the most slept on monsters in film. It’s eight-feet tall, has razor-sharp claws that are the size of knives, sharp teeth, insane strength, and super speed, hence the name, Split Second. Oh, and it can use guns. This thing is smart, not just some big dumb creature! The plot of the film is full of holes and makes little sense, and what we know about the Scorpio Demon is shotty, at best - but let me break it down. The Scorpio Demon is a...

David Freyne Discusses His New Film DATING AMBER

David Freyne Discusses His New Film DATING AMBER Read the full article on AICN I didn’t realize how much I needed DATING AMBER in my life until I saw it.  David Freyne, who wrote and directed the semi-autobiographical comedy about a closeted gay, first appeared on my radar several years ago when one of his films played at Fantastic Fest.  That film, THE CURED, took place in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse after the distribution of a cure for the zombie virus.  It proved so much more than your typical zombie fare.  After watching it, I spent days contemplating PTSD, marginalization of certain populations, and other themes addressed in the film.   I enjoyed the unique lens through which David Freyne approached the content, so I couldn’t wait to see his depiction, through a comedic lens, of a queer boy coming of age.     On the opposite end of the spectrum from that film, DATING AMBER proves equally engaging, althoug...

BLOOD FROM STONE STARRING: Vanja Kapetanovic, Gabriella Toth, and Nika Khitrova WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY: GEOFF RYAN DISTRIBUTED BY: INDIE RIGHTS BLOOD FROM STONE starts off great. Things go downhill fast when, after enjoying some of his coke, the man attacks the three and...

Barbarella and Ryan Kwanten Discuss Australia, the Future, and Sci-Fi film 2067

Barbarella and Ryan Kwanten Discuss Australia, the Future, and Sci-Fi film 2067 Read the full article on AICN Hey folks, Barbarella here still smiling after speaking with Ryan Kwanten.  The actor who played Jason Stackhouse on the long-running series TRUE BLOOD, and currently plays Peter in SACRED LIES, may now be seen in the sci-fi film 2067 which came out today in theaters and On Demand and Digital.  Written and directed by Seth Larney (TOMBIRUO), 2067 also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (X-MEN APOCALYPSE, LET ME IN) and melds beautiful visuals with an interesting internal struggle.  Fun fact about me: I love Australia, so I always enjoy meeting and speaking with Australians.  I had planned on not gushing about my adoration of the country, but even though Ryan was currently in Los Angeles, I couldn’t stop myself from talking about his homeland.  I love Australia, it's one of my favorite places ever. “Oh, me too. I mean, it was reall...

Sci-Fi Mindbender 2067 Takes Us to the Future... And Beyond!

Sci-Fi Mindbender 2067 Takes Us to the Future... And Beyond! Read the full article on AICN Hey, all! McEric here with a review of the new Sci-Fi film 2067, out today from RLJE films in theatres, on demand, and digital. Check out the trailer: 47 years in the future, mankind has been ravaged by a planet-wide oxygen shortage brought on by environmental neglect and rampant deforestation. Plants are extinct, and what remains of humanity lives on in Australia, alone. Artificial oxygen is a commodity, though its success is short-lived as thousands succumb "The Sickness," a biological rejection of the synthetic oxygen. I have to say that I enjoyed this film. Its story, despite resolving the fate of mankind, is small, focused almost entirely on Ethan Whyte (Kodi Smit-McPhee, X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX) and his plucked-from-obscurity role as Humanity's Last Great Hope. He is aided his best-friend/brother-from-another-mother Jude (Ryan Kwanten, HBO's "True Blood") with ...

Darren Lynn Bousman Discusses Belief and His Film THE DEATH OF ME Read the full article on AICN Hey movie lovers!  Barbarella here, and I’m excited to share with you my brief conversation with Darren Lynn Bousman.  The director’s latest film, THE DEATH OF ME stars Luke Hemsworth, fresh off HBO’s WESTWORLD, and Maggie Q of the CW’s NIKITA.  The film about a couple vacationing off the coast of Thailand who become ensnared in a web of mystery and black magic will be in theaters and On Demand and Digital October 2.  The film plays with ideas of faith and belief in a way that feels relevant today. Would you talk a little bit about your fascination with belief and faith? “I don't know. I think that since I grew up in a Christian household [with] quasi-religious parents, I was always just fascinated with what people allow themselves to believe in and, more importantly, how people of certain beliefs could be ridiculed or laughed at.  I alway...

WOLFMAN’S GOT NARDS Shows Love to THE MONSTER SQUAD - and its Fans!

WOLFMAN’S GOT NARDS Shows Love to THE MONSTER SQUAD - and its Fans! Read the full article on AICN Can I Be in the Monster Squad Now? Hey there, fellow horror geeks and monsterphiles! Prometheus here and I don’t know if I ever mentioned this before, but I was in the Monster Squad when I was a kid! Well, at least I thought I was, and I know I’m not alone. Fred Dekker’s The Monster Squad is a cult-classic, a staple of horror, and to this day - still one of my favorite films!  One of the best things about it is the fandom that surrounds it. The Monster Squad went from box office bomb to beloved classic over the decades, building up quite a following. Andre Gower, who played Sean in the 1987 film, made a documentary fantastically titled WOLFMAN’S GOT NARDS that looks to explore that fandom! Featuring interviews that Gower took with fans who attended the 30th anniversary tour of the film at Alamo Drafthouse locations nationwide and more! Check out the traile...

Travel the Dark Divide with David Cross!

Travel the Dark Divide with David Cross! Read the full article on AICN Hey folks, Cobrak here with a fantastic film that you should definitely watch. If you like good films at least. If not, I'm sure there's another Transformers coming out soon or something.     The Dark Divide, directed by Tom Putnam, and based off the book Where Bigfoot Walks: Crossing the Dark Divide by Robert Pyle might be my favorite film this year so far.   It certainly has a lot going for it; David Cross, beautiful landscapes and cinematography, awkward comedy, tragedy, adventure, and humanity in fairly equal measures, and a wonderful score. Oh, and a lot of David Cross ass (if that's your thing. I don't judge).     The Dark Divide tells the true story of Dr. Robert Pyle, a lepidopterist (person who studies butterflies and moths. Duh), who receives a grant that allows him to finance a weeks-long trek through the mountains of Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washin...

Gravitas Ventures' ALIEN ADDICTION Lands on VOD September 29th! Read the full article on AICN Not All Life is Intelligent…   Hey there, fellow horror geeks and monsterphiles! Prometheus here with something a bit different for you. I pose a question. Do you believe in intelligent life beyond Earth? What about not so intelligent life?  We’ve all watched the movies where aggressive alien species come to Earth and try to take it over, but what if those aliens just wanted to hang out and do funny shit?  Well, then you’d be watching ALIEN ADDICTION, of course!  Okay, let’s talk about that trailer for a moment…  First of all, THOSE ALIENS’ CONCAVED FACES! My only explanation for why that made me laugh so hard is this: Special effects can set (or kill) the tone of a film. The special effects in this trailer are good, but not good to the point of being taken too seriously, and that’s perfect!  This isn’t supposed to be taken seriously. ...
