Action Figure: Lee Marvin

There's something preternaturally destructive about Lee Marvin, something dangerous. “You’re a very bad man [...] a very destructive man,”   spits a threatened Carroll O’Connor, with the sweaty haste of a hypochondriac, in John Boorman’s Point Blank (1967), a split-second after Marvin blasts a telephone into oblivion with his hand cannon. O’Connor could be describing any of Marvin’s roles, from the stoical hitman in Don Siegel’s The Killers (1964) to his gun-for-hire in Richards Brooks’s The Professionals (1966) to his Sergeant leading a gaggle of undisciplined men sentenced to die in Robert Aldrich’s The Dirty Dozen (1967). He exuded an odd kind of menace, a disciplined minatory authority. The six-foot-two actor possessed a weathered, world-weary malaise and uncalculated brutality that suggested internal turmoil, an indignation that manifested in abrupt bursts of violence. For all the pain he inflicted on screen, he seemed to be carrying his own, an ineffable kind, something

Debbie Lee Carrington of 'Total Recall' and 'Return of the Jedi' Dies

Actress Debbie Lee Carrington was a little person who made a big impression in films including the original " Total Recall ," in which she played a Martian resistance fighter named Thumbelina. According to Deadline , Carrington, 58, died in her sleep from undetermined causes. Friends, family and and colleagues remembered her on Twitter, including Jennifer Tilly, who costarred with her in 1998's " Bride of Chucky ." Report: 'New Mutants' Undergoing Reshoots To Amp Up the Horror

" The New Mutants ," the all-teen X-Men spinoff, was supposedly finished, screened and given a big thumbs-up from test audiences. But after " It " became such a massive hit, Fox executives decided to ditch the "John Hughes meets Stephen King" vibe and make the film straight-up horror. At least according to an "insider report" over at The Tracking Board . Director Josh Boone originally announced , "We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe.... We're trying to do something very, very different." But then the studio reportedly demanded a PG-13 rating and less blood and gore. After releasing a trailer that emphasized the scarier aspects of the film, Fox then reportedly decided to go "full horror" after all. That means extensive reshoots and a new release date: August 2019. In other "New Mutants" rumors, Jon Hamm will no longer appear as Mr. Sinister in a post-credits tag. Instead,

'Ren & Stimpy' Creator Accused of Statutory Rape, Child Porn

Cringing to hear that John Kricfalusi , creator of Nickelodeon's cult favorite " The Ren & Stimpy Show ," is the latest to be outed as an alleged sexual predator. A lengthy Buzzfeed exposé details accusations of how he reportedly groomed female animation fans and preyed on girls as young as 13. His own lawyer admits that the now-62-year-old "had a 16-year-old girlfriend... for a brief time, 25 years ago." Kricfalusi's attorney also claims the animator was dealing with alcoholism and mental illness at the time of the alleged abuse, thanks to having been fired from his own show. Two of the women share their alarming stories with Buzzfeed, backed up by coworkers who were shocked by Kricfalusi's behavior. Tony Mora, who as an art director at Warner Bros. at the time, told BuzzFeed that Kricfalusi was known for harassing female artists. "It's always been there," said Mora, who shares that no one at Spumco, Kricfalusi's company, batt

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter 'Bill & Ted' Reunion Photos Give Us Life

We didn't realize how much we needed these most excellent photos of Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as older (but still totally rad) Bill & Ted. The two actors, who played the lovable stoner time travelers in " Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure " and the 1991 sequel , reunited for an awesome photo shoot for EW 's Reunion Issue. (Love those Napoleon and Joan of Arc T-shirts.) They also talked about the long-in-the-works third film, "Bill & Ted Face the Music," which, is thisclose to finally finding a financier after 11 years of development hell. The film would find now 50-something Bill and Ted married with kids (no, not to each other!) and revisiting their past. At the end of the first film, Rufus ( George Carlin ) told them they would write music that would turn the world into a utopia. And that never happened. "You're told you're gonna save the world," original "Bill & Ted" writer Chris Matheson tells EW

Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Recovering After Open Heart Surgery: 'I'm Back'

He'll be back — from open heart surgery. Arnold Schwarzenegger is in stable condition recovering from a surprise open heart surgery that followed complications from a planned heart valve replacement. The "Terminator" star and former California governor is in good spirits and his first words upon waking from surgery were "I'm back," according to his rep Daniel Ketchell. In a statement, Ketchell said, "Yesterday, Governor Schwarzenegger underwent a planned procedure at Cedars-Sinai to replace a pulmonic valve that was originally replaced due to a congenital heart defect in 1997." This is the second time Schwarzenegger has had heart surgery; he had an aortic valve replaced in 1997, during which he also suffered complicat

'Roseanne' Revival Renewed By ABC For Season 11

In completely unsurprising news, ABC is renewing the recently revived "Roseanne" for another season, its 11th. The blue collar comedy debuted to whopping ratings earlier this week. Counting one day of delayed viewing, it drew 21.89 million viewers and an astonishing 6.24 rating among the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. "We're thrilled that America has welcomed the Conner family back into their homes," said Channing Dungey, ABC Entertainment president, in a statement. "The show is as fresh and relevant today as it was when it left the air 21 years ago. We can't wait to see what the Roseanne team has in store for next year." The entire main cast, including Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, are expected to return. Other familiar faces like Estelle Parsons, Sandra Bernhard, and James Pickens Jr. will make guest appearances. Sources say Season 11 will have 13 episodes versus this yea

Colin Trevorrow Confirmed to Direct 'Jurassic World 3'

In an exclusive statement to Entertainment Weekly, Steven Spielberg has confirmed that Colin Trevorrow will return to the " Jurassic World " franchise and helm the third installment, which is currently scheduled to stomp into theaters on June 11, 2021. (Spielberg is the series' executive producer and creative godfather.) This new film will be co-written by Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael (" Pacific Rim Uprising "), based off a story that Trevorrow cooked up with Derek Connolly (who co-wrote both the original film and this summer's "Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom"). Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley will also return. " Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom ," which reunites original stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard alongside franchise mainstays B.D. Wong and Jeff Goldblum , was directed by J.A. Bayona (" A Monster Calls "). The highly anticipated sequel is due on June 22 nd . Of course, Trevorrow didn't dire

The CW Moves 'The Originals' Season 5 Premiere & Pushes 'Life Sentence' to Fridays

Change of plans, Klaroline fans . "The Originals" Season 5 premiere will now arrive two days earlier. Instead of Friday, April 20, the final season of "The Originals" will begin Wednesday, April 18 at 9 p.m., right after the special musical episode of "Riverdale." Sounds like the "Vampire Diaries" spinoff is going to stay on Wednesdays instead of Fridays, which reads like a vote of confidence from the network. Or at least a vote of no confidence for Lucy Hale 's low-rated "Life Sentence," which has been sentenced to Fridays. Sorry, Lucy Hale. The CW released its midseason schedule on March 30. Here's the press release with the new updates: The final season of THE ORIGINALS will now make its debut on a new night, Wednesday, April 18 (9:00-10:00pm ET/PT), following the "CARRIE The Musical" episode of RIVERDALE . Following next Wednesday's original episode, The CW's new series LIFE SENTENCE will return

Watch 'Handsome, Muscular' Thor Meet the Guardians in Full 'Avengers: Infinity War' Clip

But watch fast in case it gets pulled. Marvel aired this hilarious "Avengers: Infinity War" scene last week during the Kids Choice Awards. The footage was previously shown at the D23 Expo in summer 2017, but Marvel never shared the clip online. Low-quality versions of the clip traveled the web, but ComicBook.com just posted a decent video for fans to watch before the movie opens on April 27. The clip shows how Thor (Chris Hemsworth) ends up meeting Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the Guardians of the Galaxy. As usual, Drax (Dave Bautista) steals the whole thing. Peter Quill/Star-Lord : "How is this dude still alive?" Drax : "He is not a dude. You're a dude. This? This is a man. A handsome, muscular man." Well, at least Drax doesn't think Thor is "hideous," unlike someone we know... Check out the clip (if it's still up): Ah, jealous Star-Lord. This scene probably plays out just after Star-Lord tells Teen Groot to get off hi

5 Reasons Why ‘The Americans’ is the Best It’s Ever Been This Season

The Americans is one of the most quietly relevant shows on television, but not necessarily on purpose. The series took on a new meta-level importance with the election of Donald Trump, whose tenure has been marred by his ties to Russia, an ever-growing scandal that could eventually be his undoing. On The Americans , it’s the 1980s, our protagonists are KGB spies, and the Soviet Union is about to collapse. The relationship between Russia and America is the story’s central tête-à-tête; Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (played by the marvelously underrated Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, who should be bathing in Emmys by now) have spent five seasons deeply undercover, raising children and assimilating into suburban consumerism unchecked. But in the season six premiere, which aired last night, there is a foundational change in the show’s status quo, and the mounting feeling that it will all soon come to a head. The show hasn’t been flashy about its suddenly hot-for-commentary storylines.

John Krasinski & Emily Blunt's Horror 'A Quiet Place' Has 100 Percent Fresh Rating

Shhhhhhh. Don't make any sudden moves to disturb the critics or they might break this streak. We're always rooting for John Krasinski and Emily Blunt -- who happen to be married, but we love them separately too. So we were already rooting for the horror thriller "A Quiet Place" to succeed. Krasinski directed the movie, and he and Blunt play husband-and-wife on screen as well -- parents to two children, played by Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe (shown above). They also have two kids in real life. Thankfully, everything else is fiction. So far, critics definitely approve of their movie. One week out, "A Quiet Place" has a 100 percent fresh rating from 33 critics on Rotten Tomatoes , with an average rating of 8.3/10. That's not bad at all. The Metascore at this point is 79, based on 14 critics. It's definitely possible that the scores will go down, but the critical praise so far is effusive enough to suggest director Krasinski has a winner on h

Cameron Diaz Really Has Retired from Acting

Cameron Diaz first shot onto the Hollywood scene like a beautiful firecracker in the fantasy comedy The Mask . Though she may have ultimately been overshadowed by the wild antics of Jim Carrey at maximum insanity, the role was the beginning of a successful career that would see her become a leading lady just a few years later. However, we may have seen the last of Cameron Diaz on the big screen without even knowing it. Earlier this month, there was an interview with Selma Blair going around where the actress said that her The Sweetest Thing co-star and good friend had quietly retired from acting. However, she then came out shortly after to say that she was just joking. But now we have word from Cameron Diaz herself that she really has retired from acting. The Initial Rumor The news of Cameron Diaz retiring first came from a recent interview Metro conducted with Selma Blair when the topic came up about the romantic comedy The Sweetest Thing , which both actresses starred in back

'Suits' Finale Wedding Photos Show Meghan Markle as Bride

Meghan Markle is going to have so much practice as a bride before her big day with Prince Harry. She was already married once before, and she'll be getting married again on TV in late April during the "Suits" Season 7 finale. Both Meghan Markle (Rachel) and Patrick J. Adams (Mike) are leaving after this season, and their wedding will play out over the two-hour season finale. Series creator Aaron Korsh teased the pair's happy ending to Entertainment Weekly : "I was pretty happy with that because I know we do a lot of bittersweet things on the show, and it just felt good to give them a really good send-off." EW shared photos from the big wedding, which airs April 25 on the USA Network. Of course, they only showed part of Rachel's wedding look -- we don't even get to see her face -- so you have to watch the episode for the full reveal: The "Suits" Season 7 finale airs over two hours on Wednesday, April 25 at 9 p.m. "Suits&q

Do the Direct-to-Video Sequels to ‘The Lost Boys’ Suck?

( Welcome to  DTV Descent , a series where we explore the weird and wild world of direct-to-video sequels to theatrically released movies. In this edition we bite down hard on two sequels to one of the most popular vampire movies of the ’80s. ) Not every movie that deserves a sequel actually gets one, and those that actually get a follow-up don’t always deserve it. Hollywood’s a mysterious place, a place where box-office dictates content more often than talent and creativity, and one of the unfortunate results of that formula is that sometimes a sequel can be greenlit strictly in the hopes of a quick cash-grab. In the most egregious of those cases, the follow-up doesn’t even make it to theaters and is instead aimed squarely at the direct-to-video (DTV) market. The original filmmakers are rarely involved, the level of onscreen talent is typically several rungs down the ladder of fame, and the films themselves are usually forgotten immediately…if they’re even noticed at all. Well, tha

5 Influential Women in the World of Modern Design

We’ve celebrated women all month long in our Friday Five column in honor of Women’s History month, but we didn’t want it to end there. While design has long been a male-dominated field, we’re finally seeing the balance shift with more and more notable women not just entering the arena, but taking over and permanently cementing their names in history. Today, we’re taking a look at five influential women in the world of modern design who deserve to be household names. Photo courtesy of Cecilie Manz Fresh off a Designer of the Year win from Maison&Objet 2018, award-winning Danish designer Cecilie Manz continues breaking the mold in the design world working with major brands, like Fritz Hansen, B&O, Muuto, Duravit, Georg Jensen Damask, Iittala, Fredericia Furniture, and more, creating everything from bathtubs, furniture, speakers, lighting, textiles, objects, and glassware. Her Scandinavian roots prominently show through in each of her designs with a clean, minimalist appr
