The 9 Go-To Stores Real Estate Agents Use for Inexpensive Staging Decor

A large part of being a real estate agent is zhushing up a space to attract potential buyers. Because of this, many agents keep an accent and furniture inventory to lend to sellers with an open house or listing photo shoot on the calendar. In case you're wondering, they aren't super snobby when it comes to sourcing decor items: They often shop in the same places with an eye on price. I asked real estate agents for insider intel on where they shop to find the inexpensive accents they need. Here, their go-to purchases at nine major discount stores: READ MORE » Apartment Therapy | Saving the world, one room at a time http://bit.ly/2sX1NLe January 30, 2019 at 06:30PM

The Only Two Things That Motivate Me to Keep My Kitchen Counters Clean

Kitchen counters are clutter magnets—plain and simple. As I look at my own countertops, I see seven-ish different piles in the works (kids' art, unopened mail, recyclables on their way to the bin, etc.). It's never-ending. And despite being a fairly organized, clean-surface kind of girl myself, and literally interviewing dozens of experts on the subject, there are only two times my countertops ever get clean. The Best Money-Saving Advice I Got From My Contractor Father

My dad is a general contractor and house framer, specializing in new, custom, often high-end homes. He and my mom started their family business, Bowling Construction , 30-some-odd years ago, and you don't do that without knowing a thing or two about how to spend money wisely. While I, unfortunately, didn't inherit any carpentry or construction skills from my dad, I have absorbed some handy money-saving advice, which I've put to good use in my own renovation projects over the years. Before and After: This Tiny Bathroom Looks Brand New After Only $1,000

Ok, so maybe this isn't the world's tiniest bathroom, but it's close. When Lara of The Unprofessional set out to renovate her tiny attic bathroom, her issues with the space weren't just cosmetic. Thanks to its small size, the bathroom had lots of unusual quirks: the vanity door wouldn't open all the way, the bathroom door swung out and blocked the hallway, and the toilet was so close to the door that doing your business was a bit uncomfortable. Time for a few creative solutions. READ MORE » Apartment Therapy | Saving the world, one room at a time http://bit.ly/2RqWA8f January 30, 2019 at 03:30PM

The Cheapest Way to Build Your Coffee Table Book Collection

I've always been a bit of a book hoarder, but recently, my stack of coffee table books alone has begun to rival my collection of novels, biographies, and memoirs. And while the internet often makes it seem like you can't purchase a gorgeous design manual or two without spending the equivalent of a week's worth of groceries, that certainly isn't the case. I'm letting you in on my little money-saving trick: shopping for coffee table books used off of Amazon. First things first: coffee table books are everywhere. The sheer number of titles available can be somewhat overwhelming—just when I think I've heard of every must-have design book, a new one is released and instantly becomes a hit. If you're a fellow interiors enthusiast and are looking to build a collection from scratch, I recommend starting out with these cult favorites: " Elements of Style: Designing a Home & a Life ," " Styled: Secrets for Arranging Rooms, from Tabletops to Booksh

“DHY” is My Secret for Affordable Custom Framing

"Anything can be art!," they say. "Frame a beautiful paper menu or a favorite scarf for budget-friendly artwork." It's not bad advice (I may or may not have written about this exact topic a couple weeks ago ), but what the proverbial "they" forget to mention is how mind-bogglingly expensive custom framing can be when you're trying to dress up your walls on the cheap. Your quirky little found object isn't likely to fit inside the standard-sized frames you pick up at Target. A Little Lesson in Letting Go of Stuff — The 2019 January Cure

The January Cure is all about refreshing and organizing your home for 2019. We tackle one assignment each weekday throughout the entire month. It's not too late to sign up , and you can visit the Cure page to catch up with the assignments so far. Sometimes all you need to declutter is a fresh perspective. Once your things are yours , letting go of them can feel like a loss. A loss of money or preparedness or potential. And those are very real feelings. But whenever you can loosen your hold on your stuff, you're also gaining a lot of intangible benefits: More space—mentally and physically, as in the case of a too-tight pair of jeans that steal a part of both your dresser drawer and your self-esteem. More clarity to decide what to buy and keep in the future. More attention for the things you do own and use and care for and love. Can you dig your man? Stephen King's THE STAND ordered to 10-episode series at CBS All Access!

If we get another Gary Sinise out of this, it's darn well worth the potential troubles. Read the full article on AICN Hey folks... Precious Roy here with news out of Deadline Hollywood that CBS All Access has ordered a 10-episode miniseries for Stephen King's end-times drama THE STAND.  The new series is penned by writer/director Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS and THE NEW MUTANTS) and producer/showrunner Benjamin Cavell (JUSTIFIED, SEAL TEAM). The article gets into Boone's very personal connection with Stephen King, which suggests that King has put the series in good hands, and includes a quote from King, who both endorses the project and praises Boone and Cavell's script.   For those who have never read the book or seen the previous series, THE STAND is about an unleashed government superflu that wipes out 99% of the world's population. The survivors are pulled in two directions: to the light with Mother Abigail in Nebraska, or to Randall Flagg, the Satan-

A HOLE IN THE GROUND is making waves

A hole fights over the soul of the GOOD SON Read the full article on AICN Freddy Beans here with a trailer for a new horror movie already making waves titled THE HOLE IN THE GROUND. Holy crap, that trailer was cut masterfully!  I loved the muted lighting for the outdoor shots.  There sure are some similarities to PET SEMETARY here, with a hole in the ground returning a kid not quite the same. Looks like Chris falls in a pit and whatever comes out looking like him, isn’t.  That’s all connected to a head banging old lady neighbor who had a similar aged son disappear.  One she swore wasn’t’ hers before he disappeared.   The actual synopsis states that Sarah O’Neill (Seana Kerslake) is building a new life in this backwoods town with her son Chris (James Quinn Markey).  There’s a questionable moment in the woods and it’s only exacerbated by the old lady claiming the Chris isn’t her boy.  It all seems to lead to this sinkhole in the backyard, hence the title. A24 is at it again, tryi

"THE PUNISHER" SEASON 2 Review by AICN's Eloy

Click now! "THE PUNISHER" SEASON 2 Review by AICN's Eloy Read the full article on AICN Eloy here,   Coming right after the third and lamentably final season of Daredevil- and his own rather satisfying launch, as well-, THE PUNISHER is a big disappointment in its sophomore season. And once again, as it’s been the case way too often with the Marvel properties in Netflix, the main- almost sole- reason is an almost unbearable overlength.   The first episode promised so much better, however. Using its entire initial half hour to slowly- appropriately so- introduce an unexpected love interest for Frank Castle (played by returning MVP Jon Bernthal with utter perfection, this time even more uncannily resembling artist Steve Dillon’s interpretation of the character) immediately proves wise as we are allowed to actually buy their admittedly fast yet actually believable budding intimacy as it develops. Then all hell breaks loose- as expected- and the first bone-crunchingly reali

Annette Kellerman Interviews PIERCING Director Nicolas Pesce- Part 2!

Annette Kellerman Interviews PIERCING Director Nicolas Pesce- Part 2! Read the full article on AICN Last October at Fantastic Fest, I had the opportunity to talk to writer/director Nicolas Pesce about PIERCING, his new dark and disturbing film starring Christopher Abbott and Mia Wasikowska.  Based on the novel by Ryu Murakami, the film is a sadistic little story about a wannabe killer and his equally demented victim. The highly stylized film features many bold design choices as well as an incredible soundtrack packed with throwback Italian Giallo goodies. I published part one of our chat back in September, and now I am hear to unleash part two in support of the movie's 2/1 theatrical release. Enjoy!   Kellerman: Can you talk about the effects in this a little bit? It looked like there was a mix of CG and practical. Can you talk about some of those choices? And just maybe some of the practical aspects of doing, like the water scene, that sort of stuff?Pesce: Yeah. Very minimal

Slamdance '19: DONS OF DISCO is an ItaloDisco Inferno!

Roni Rampant gets the Boogie Fever for DONS OF DISCO Read the full article on AICN Roni here, Gather round, kiddies, while I tell you a tale of 80s Eurodisco and 90's indie filmmaking! The Slamdance film festival, founded in the mid 90's, was always something of a Psychotronic middle finger to the more staid festival across the street, Sundance. With a punk rock sneer and a Gen X'ers sense of irony, Slamdance has long championed the truly independent, low budget, scrappy outsider artist. So it's in that spirit that I have been watching Slamdance screeners this week, over a Chromecast, from the comfort of my living room. (I've been to Park City. It's cold. There's a polar vortex out there. 'Nuff said.)  There's nothing I like better than falling down a weird musical rabbit hole, and DONS OF DISCO delivers everything you'd want from a Slamdance documentary on Eurodisco: irony, synth-and-fog 80's culture, and ultimately, a glimpse of the h

Iron Volumes Sculptures

Myriam Louvel Paoli is a French artist from Vaucluse who has chosen to put metal and volumes at the heart of her work. Following in the footsteps of Picasso, Calder, Giacometti to name only the most famous, she works with iron wires to create sculptures of varying sizes and types, sometimes combining objects with wires, as in her series of “Repairs”, or operating “piles” of shapes, which creates large volumes in the space where imagination can flourish, only guided by enigmatic titles left as clues. Virtuoso of her medium, she also creates less abstract sculptures, such as “Le Bouquet” of which detail is pushed to the buds on the branches…           Fubiz Media http://bit.ly/2S050sa January 30, 2019 at 04:57PM

A Sensorial Travel in Hong Kong

Five years ago, Désiré van den Berg , a photographer based in the Netherlands, moved in Hong Kong where she stayed seven months. «  I remember very well how I felt when I first arrived: it was hot, humid and dark, and I was lost. I followed the colors and crowds swaying along the sidewalks like waves in separate currents, swelling and shrinking, occasionally breaking up the flow by stopping myself and looking up  » , she explains. During this first trip, she barely took photos while living there. The countless photographs she had seen of Hong Kong prior to arriving, made it more difficult to find inspiration and to pick up her camera.   Désiré van den Berg was back, and felt that her plane took her right back in the past: «  Strong wafts of tiger balm, braised pork and detergent welcomed me as I set foot back on the soil. It’s incredible what smells can do to the brain [… ] The sounds and smells activated old feelings and emotions I forgot I ever had. Love and loneliness. Lost and
